The Story of Us

Sometimes when I see the fancy designer trees in the magazines I think we should redesign our Christmas tree.  Our tree is this eclectic bunch of ornaments.   But you know I wouldn’t change it.   One of our favorite things to do is buy a new ornament when we travel or go someplace special.   Each year opening the box of Christmas ornaments is a trip down memory lane. Each ornament has a story attached to it. This year Steve said it best. He said our Christmas tree is the story of us.

Santa from one of many winery visits, sax gator from a New Year’s Eve in New Orleans.

Our First Christmas ornament next to a photo from our wedding.

Another tradition, the annual cookie exchange. Last weekend many of our neighbors and friends came over to celebrate at our cookie exchange. Everyone brings 2-3 dozen cookies to share. Everyone leaves with a mixed bag of cookies. I just love the variety of cookies – and the hot spiced wine.

What are your holiday traditions?  If you don’t have any then as a newly wed, about to be wed or a new mom, now is the perfect opportunity to start your own traditions and stories.

Grand Opening Broadway East Community Center

Boulder Housing Partners, St. John’s Foundation, and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation hosted a celebration for the completion of the Broadway East Community Center last week.  I attended to take some photos of the grand opening event and ribbon cutting.  The community center is a wonderful place and many people braved a snowy Boulder evening to attend.  Enjoy my small virtual tour of the center.

Look at this classroom – doesn’t it make you want to study and learn?

I loved the rule boards posted throughout the center.  This is a photo of only one corner in the computer lab.

Aspiring artist displays and my favorite rule board.

A plaque being presented to commemorate years of hard work and a wonderful result.

Brave souls endure the Colorado snow for the official ribbon cutting.

If you are interested any of the three organizations that were instrumental in the building of the Broadway East Community Center contact them now and see how you can help.  Here are the links again Boulder Housing Partners, St. John’s Foundation, and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation.  I encourage you to find the charitable organization that is near and dear to your heart and help in any way that you can.

Christmas Season is Here

It’s official – Christmas Season is here.   This weekend we kicked off our holiday at the Lyons holiday parade and fireworks show.  The light parade was full of jolly community spirit and the fireworks were spectacular.  Steve and I also hosted our annual holiday cookie exchange and decorated the tree this weekend.  Watch the blog.  I’ll be posting more about our holiday activities and a charity open house I photographed last week.

The guests of honor at the Lyons parade – Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Happy Birthday To Me

In celebration of my birthday today I am posting photos from my first 2 birthdays. I totally don’t remember these days but the photos tell the story – the same cake with different frosting, the single candle on one and the big number 2 on the other, my mother proudly displaying me and her set up of fancy matched plates and glasses, my cousin in the background waiting for me to blow out the candle so they can get their cake. These photos are my memories of my first 2 birthdays.

I don’t know if having a birthday the week after Thanksgiving is a blessing or curse. Another year has passed for me and it is always at the beginning of the holiday season and the end of the year, because of this my birthday always set off a season of reflection for me.  I’ll be thinking a lot about these photo memories and my life in the coming weeks – reviewing the past and planning for the future.  Does this time of year cause you to reflect too?
