Lost Antler Ranch

As promised here are some photos from the open house at Lost Antler Ranch in Estes Park.  Thank you to all of the brides that braved the weather to visit.  It was a bit cool and foggy.  I will return on a sunny day, I promise, but I still wanted to post the images from this weekend.  We can never control the weather on your wedding but whatever mother nature gives us we can still get some lovely images.  The fog added a bit of mystery and romance to Lost Antler Ranch and it was still a gorgeous spot for a wedding or retreat.  Below is the wedding gazebo taken from the side so you can see the beautiful mountain lake.  The Lake House is to the left out of the photo.  The second photo is taken from the deck of the lake house where you see the little island in the center of the lake through the fog.

Inside the Lake House, here are photos of the yummy appetizers from Wildflower Catering.  They do cakes too.  Everything pulled together with a Spring butterfly theme.

You must see Lost Antler Ranch to truly get an idea of how gorgeous it is.

Wildflower Concert at Planet Bluegrass

Saturday night Steve and I attended a concert at the Wildflower Pavilion at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons.  We brought the D700 camera to take some low light concert photos and it rocked.  All of these images were taken without a flash.   I try not to use flash so the camera doesn’t interfere with the event and I love my Nikon D700 for this reason.    The Concerts at the  Wildflower Pavilion are held in the Spring and Fall and are a great night out.    Planet Bluegrass is a great spot for a wedding too.

The stage set up for a great show.

Elephant Revival was a lot of fun.  I angled this image to get some of the roof of the Wildflower Pavilion.  The wood is simply beautiful.

I love the bon fire out by the river.

Open House at Lost Antler Ranch

You are invited to an open house this Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 1-4 at Lost Antler Ranch in Estes Park.  There will be a progressive tour of the ranch and several local vendors to meet.  If you are still looking for a fabulous location for your wedding then look at Lost Antler Ranch.  Here is the description off their website:

“Lost Antler Ranch is the perfect location for your next Corporate Retreat, Family Reunion, Family Vacation, Church Retreat, Wedding or Colorado Escape. The Ranch is on 165 acres, completely surrounded by national park and national forest, allowing for a secluded location, yet only minutes from the town of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. From your door step you can walk to the private lake, multiple hiking trails, or admire uninterrupted views of the Rocky Mountains.”

I will be in the Lake House with some albums  – but I’ll also be roaming around with my camera so look for me and say hello.   Steve will also be there.  Watch the blog next week for photos from the event.

Bridal Workshop

I had time to get in one more wedding workshop so on Monday I spent the day learning from the talented Denver photographer Travis Broxton.  Travis has been photographing weddings for many years and shared so much knowledge plus he had a great personality so listening to him was fun.  We spent the morning in class and then the afternoon photographing some beautiful brides.  I find myself observing a lot during these photo sessions, I love watching other photographers work and when the instructor isn’t ‘teaching’ but just photographing along with us I find some great tips that I can bring back for my brides.  I also try to take advantage of these bridal photo sessions by challenging myself.   I get overwhelmed when there are lots of other photographers shooting so I try to step back and find creative perspectives, plus I only use one lens for the entire seession  Usually I’ll pick a new lens – but I don’t have a new lens so I pulled out my Nikon 85mm which I typically only use for portraits.

Here are a couple of images from the day.

I took the second photo through a window – the patio was a full of other photographers from the class so I got creative and found this angle.  The window reflections added a little interest to the image.

Another interesting angle for a basic bridal photo.  I thought the reflections in the water were fun.  I saw another photographer at WPPI using water to get interesting reflections so I’ve had my eyes open for his opportunity since then.

Baby Z is One Year Old

I can’t believe it was only one year ago that we were taking Connie’s maternity photos and then Zuri’s newborn photos.  Here she is on her one year birthday!  This photography session is a great example of simple locations.  We started right after Zuri woke from her nap and took some images of her playing in the living room and then headed to the closest park.  No big trips for baby, no fuss.  We were finishing right in time for dinner and when Zuri was pretty much done with pictures.  There is no need to travel when I will come to you and make everything simple.

For one year photos we have to get photos of the little walker.  This is typically the age when baby is taking her first steps.

I loved this series.  The dog had to be a part of the photos :)
